You have been entrusted with a small being (or several small beings) with
the wrong instructions and no guidance. You are expected to keep them safe,
warm, fed, rested and happy without sleep, regular meals or bathroom breaks. You
are expected to remain calm, cheerful, optimistic and happy at all times. (And the
pearls, apron, high heels and bon-bons? Where are they!)

Your role as a mother mystifies you. Why didn't anyone tell you how hard it
would be. ...Or, maybe they did...You just didn't understand what they meant at
the time. Even when you solve one problem, five more spring up to take its place.
You feel inept, unsure, and definitely unshowered, most of they time.

What you probably need are just a few things to be confident that you are a
good mother. Here are some things that might help you:

  • Mother to Mother Support -- It can be a sanity saver. Just knowing: "I am
not the only one!" causes a huge release in tension. Most of us were not
raised in a community where we observed babies being mothered. When you
sit in a circle of peers, you hear their experiences and it usually makes your
situation look more reassuring.  Read More...

  • Baby to Baby Socialization Babies love being with other babies! And they
learn from each other. From birth, they start to communicate with eachother
through eye contact and touch. Here is a place where your baby can meet
other babies who are the same age. Your baby can engage, learn and teach
other babies essential developmental skills. Read More...

  • A Baby Store that believes "You don't need a bunch of crap to raise a
baby". Most of us registered in Big-Box-Baby-Stores for a bunch of junk
when we were pregnant. You may have some great gear, but odds are, you
have come to realize that you really didn't need ALL this... AND there's a
bunch of really cool stuff you wish you did have. Who knew??? Everything
we sell is mother tested. We have lots of "Try-Before-You-Buy" boxes and
classes...because one mom's "PERFECT!" is another's "nightmare". Shop

  • A Resource when you need to know "WHAT & WHY???": (If your
mother is helpful in that way, you are blessed and lucky!) New Baby New Paltz
may save you, your partner and your baby a lot of irritation with each other.
Chances are you never learned the basics of babyhood. What is normal? And
Why? What should you expect at each age? We have a lending library,
classes, therapists, and consultants. (Call 845-750-4402 or email your
question using the contact form below)

New Baby New Paltz is a Mother to Mother support center open to all
mothers
. It doesn't matter what parenting or feeding choices you have made:
You are welcome, no matter what.
We really only have one rule: "Be friendly."

We sell the things you need:
  • Nursing Bras in sizes 32-46, A-L (In lots of styles)
  • Nursing tops from Glamourmom, Bravado, Milk, Leading Lady and others
  • Cloth and Hybrid Diapers from GroVia and FuzziBunz
  • Hospital Grade Breast Pump Rentals
  • Ameda Breast Pumps and Parts
  • Ergobaby Carriers and Serene Slings
  • Baby Clothes
  • Skin and Health Care products for families

And we have some things you might not expect:

An International Board Certified Lactation Consultant
(IBCLC), not a CLC
(Certified Lactation Counselor). IBCLC is the gold standard in breastfeeding help.
There are rigorous education and clinical requirements and candidates need to sit
for and pass a 6 hour exam to become IBCLCs. In addition, they are required to
take 16 hours of professional education every year and re-certify every 5 years.

Limited retail store hours, Products from Work-At-Home-Moms (WAHM), Etsy:
Local, Innovative Design, and Eco/green products. We give Moms "Business
Kangaroo Care".  We Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. For instance, we re-use gift bags,
instead of buying big bags with our name on them. We bring Love into everything
we do.

We have an online store and "Better than Diapers.com" Home Delivery. You
don't actually have to leave home if you need a Nose-Frida, breast pads or a
Hospital Grade Pump Rental. You can shop on-line and still feel good because you
are buying local and supporting local moms.

We have a Swap Shop. You can donate or consign your unwanted mom or baby
clothes and gear. We support programs that empower moms, like the YWCA, La
Leche League, Pregnancy Support Center and Family of New Paltz.

"Dear Mother-Of-God...they're New Paltz Hippies, aren't they?"

Oh, WOW... I guess we probably are...we do have really long hair...and we're
nice, we smell good and we always have homemade cookies. And, we accept and
love you wherever you are in your mothering journey. It doesn't matter what kind
of birth you had or how you feed and diaper your baby...we want you to feel at
home.

Dear Donna-

This week's newsletter was
picture perfect.

Somehow you know just what to
say at just the right time.  We've
been discussing how and when
we want to start to transition
feel like I've read every book
and listened to every advice out
there but yours rings truest and
we've been taking it day by day
(or night by night). It's nice to
have your thoughts reinforced,
with "Hey, you've got the idea"!

Thanks so much!
Love,
Amy

Mary's story:  "My pump stopped working in the middle of my 12 hour shift. I
called Donna at 7:30 at night and told her what had happened. She met me at the
store and I was able to get the pump I wanted, at a very reasonable price, without
a drive to the mall. And she let me borrow a Hospital grade pump to get my supply
boosted! I was able to get home, feed my kids, pump and go to bed at a
reasonable hour. That's just what I needed!"

You can make an appointment for Lactation Consultations, Bra Fittings, Sleep

just to buy a box of breastpads,...
Really? I can make an appointment to buy a
box of breastpads?"
Really. You can also buy them in our online store, and get
them delivered same or next day. (Better than Amazon!)
(845) 750-4402

Why Appointments?
We have kids. We like being with them. They have their own
lives and we don't think kids should have to sit in the store, even if no one comes
in. In addition, a lot of our business is consultations and we want to give you
focused attention, so that your problem is solved the first time.

And you? You might want to shop on Wednesday at 9 pm, or Tuesday at
7:30 am, without driving to Kingston or Poughkeepsie. You might want to spend an
hour talking about something without interruptions. How would we know that? You
have a cell phone, we have a cell phone. We'll make it easy for you.

We live, work and play in New Paltz--give a call and we'll meet you at the
store. As a new business, it also helps keeps our overhead down, which means
lower prices and better service for you.
Kristin's story:  "I lost the adapter off my pump flange. I called Donna that to see if
she had the part. She wasn't sure, but I met her at the store in the morning and I was
able to get a piece that worked... on my way to work."
Leah's story:  "I made an appointment for a private bra fitting. I was able to relax,
take my time and try on at least 6 bras. I had my baby with me and everything! It
was nice and the prices were reasonable. They k
now the bras they sell and it
shows. My new bra is the most comfortable one I've had."

Courtney's story:  "I called Donna at 11 pm on Christmas Eve. My pump had died.
I was afraid of my breasts getting totally engorged and losing my milk supply.
Donna reassured me and offered to get me a pump that night. I decided it could
wait and she opened the store on Christmas Day so I could get the pump I needed.
